The Bunchberry
The flower of the Bunchberry, really four white petal like bracts, grows from creeping rootstock. The 'flower' is surrounded by a whorl of vivid green leaves and has a subtle scent. The fruit is a tight cluster of bright red berry like drupes. Bunchberry is a small plant growing three to eight inches in height and is found in cool woods and damp openings from May to late June. This showy wildflower is considered an herb in the Dogwood family. |
