Captain Andrew J. Rae and Sons Ltd. was founded in 1960 as nautical instrument engineers to provide the service of magnetic compass adjusting and repairs throughout Atlantic Canada. In the late 60's they developed reflector binnacles in GRP construction with a special twin sight tube model for double-ended ferries.
In the mid 1970's they developed an audio-visual correspondence course to enable students to prepare for the Canadian Coast Guard examinations for Masters and Mates. Up to the present date they have assisted over 4500 candidates in preparation for Coast Guard Certification. In the mid 1980's theydeveloped the STABCALC© Stability Software, which was followed by LoadCALC© and then GrainCALC© . (A downloadable demo of GrainCALC© is available here). The project for the 1990's is the enhancement for their correspondence course modules being reporduced on computer diskette and CD-ROM. The first of those modules will be available in the spring of 1997. A good inventory of nautical and marine engineering textbooks is maintained (free catalogue on request). Their Castalia Software division specializes in the manufacture of CAST brand Pc's with associated service being available in the port of Halifax.
