Historic Renovations

Lunenburg Arms Hotel

In 2001-2002, John Doucet Architects Limited was hired to convert a dilapidated tavern to a 5 star hotel in Lunenburg, NS.  The challenge of designing the Lunenburg Arms Hotel was to work within strict heritage guidelines in a UNESCO World Heritage Community while more than tripling the usable space by designing an addition that was sympathetic to its environment.

Churches

Trinity Church, Liverpool, NS

John Doucet Architects Limited designed and supervised the construction of a new church hall, to be attached to the second oldest Anglican Church in North America.  The hall building had to be attached to the existing church and was designed around the tombstones of an existing cemetery, adjacent to the church.  The hall consisted of a main entrance, a large gathering hall, a large kitchen, pastor’s office, daycare/Sunday-school rooms, and a secretary’s office.  The building was to complement the architecture of the old church, while maintaining a direct link between the church hall and the church activities.
