Nova
Scotia is not just another pretty place. Its varied landscapes,
from rugged coastlines and sandy beaches to tree-clad mountains
and pastoral valleys, offers an exciting range of activities for
both the novice and experienced outdoor adventurer alike. While
the less intrepid can beachcomb and swim, fish off the dock or dig
for clams, take leisurely walks through unique towns or explore
"living museums" such as the Fortress of Louisbourg and Sherbrooke
Village, the more adventurous can whale-watch, scuba dive, hike
(or bike) the hills and mountains, kayak and canoe. And everyone
can ride the tidal bore, river raft, visit lighthouses, explore
caves or search for fossils and precious stones. However you choose
to explore the natural riches of Nova Scotia, this book is your
guide. It provides useful information on five natural geographic
areas in the province, lists the variety of outdoor activities available,
tells you how to get there and gives you helpful tips on making
the most of your outdoor adventure. Coastal Nova Scotia is designed
for outdoor enthusiasts who want to experience the natural world
firsthand in a friendly, safe and clean environment, at their own
pace and preference.
Joanne
Light, a native of Nova Scotia, spent her early years exploring
the shores of the Annapolis Basin. After studying Education and
Fine Arts, she pursued her twin passions of writing and travelling
by teaching in two of Canada's northern communities. Her book of
poetry and prose, Meeting the North, was published in 1986. An outdoor
enthusiast, she has hiked and cycled in Australia, Europe and Central
America, and finds the landscape and people of her native Nova Scotia
to be among the most intriguing of all.
