Objectives

How we plan to reach the goal

• Develop a Nova Scotian model in Halifax Regional Municipality for designing and building naturalized school grounds which incorporates natural features of the local landscape as well as native plants and animals.
• Design and build naturalized school grounds with the active participation of students, teachers, parents and members of the local community.
• Provide teachers and students with an alternative approach to teaching and learning of new skills, which will be demonstrated by the use of outdoor classrooms when teaching a variety of subjects (i.e. math, writing, science art etc.).
• Study the long term effects of school ground naturalization on children's thoughts, feelings, and behaviours; and the effect of landscape changes on physical injuries occurring on school grounds.
